National Seminar on “Emerging Trends in Materials and Processing Technologies” September 26-28, 2013 Bangalore, India

The seminar brings together experts from industry, government, defence, academia, research and end users to examine and discuss new advances in manufacturing sciences and technology that would have maximum impact on end-user industry, such as, Aerospace, Automobile, Power sector, etc. In the present global economic scenario, advances in manufacturing sciences and technology are expected to contribute significantly to global economic revival and its sustainability. Keeping this in mind as well as the interest of researchers and the industry, the Bangalore Chapter of IIM is organizing a two-day seminar and one day Techmart session entitled “Emerging Trends in Materials and Processing Technologies". This seminar provides a forum, wherein researchers, metallurgical industry representatives, equipment manufacturers and end-users can meet and discover current trends and future opportunities in the manufacturing sciences & technology.


Objectives:
  • To provide a forum to facilitate interaction between the R&D and industry experts together with the captains of industry and metallurgical equipment manufacturers.
  • To disseminate current state of art practices and learn about the future trends in the industry which would make it complete in the future.
  • To identify potential research and opportunity areas for researchers and industry.
  • To learn about how the Indian companies are standing up to the global challenges of future.
  •  To network for better future benefits.
IIM-BC also invites manufacturers and technology providers to make presentations about their equipment, processes and capabilities to a large gathering of leaders and decision makers of the Indian industry, senior executives from PSUs, Government factories, Defence establishments, R&D Establishments and Entrepreneurs from all over India who a re p o t e n t i a l t a ke r s o f t h e t e c h n o l o g y a n d exhibits. Invited talks would be given by eminent professionals and experts in the fields. Further, there would be one session each dedicated to :
1. Emerging Materials and Technologies
2. Modern Heat Treatment practices
3. Advances in Ceramic Materials
A special poster session is being organised exclusively for students for which papers are invited.

The Indian Institute of Metals was conceived in 1945 and currently the membership exceeds Ten Thousand with Fifty Two chapters across the country. Most of the nation's outstanding metallurgists and materials engineers have been associated with IIM in various capacities. The Bangalore Chapter– located in the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is one of the leading Chapters of IIM. The Department of Materials Engineering, IISc, is in close association with IIM Bangalore Chapter in all its technical activities supporting metallurgists’ fraternity. Meeting its endeavour IIM-BC organizes many events like Workshops, Seminars including the prestigious Professor Brahm Prakash Memorial and Diamond Jubilee Lectures. It provides a platform for dissemination of knowledge and support to the industries. Further, it provides a bridge between academia and industry. Complementing its efforts, ASM International Bangalore Chapter and Indian Ceramic Society Bangalore Chapter have joined hands with IIM in this event.
